Hurricane Maria itself caused minor damages, but the wide-spreading rain resulted in flooding. This picture is of a washed out bridge next to the Jamao river where JuliAnna and many others in the church have been baptized. The government and the Dominican people have been praised by the media for preventive efforts to mitigate damages before the hurricane hit. There is no greater example of this than Bro. Fanel who was approached by the government the week before María arrived and was asked to move out of a particular section of Tamboril. He prayed about it and even though it was a big inconvenience, he found another place to rent and moved the day before María arrived. Today, Bro. Fanel's former home is completely flooded and more than 10 homes there have been destroyed.
One of the articles of faith of our church is on Civil Government. “We believe that civil government is of divine appointment, for the interests and good order of society; that officials should be prayed for and conscientiously honored and obeyed." I’m thankful today Bro. Fanel obeyed and while many times we can complain about taxes, red tape and corruption, we should also be very thankful and praise all the good that is done by those that have rule over us. The storm has passed and approximately 25 communities have lost communication by road. (DR1.com) Additionally 17% of Santiago is still without power (ListinDiario.com) and we would appreciate your prayers for opportunities to serve the communities of Guravito, Licey and Tamboril. Adversity always comes but God is good all the time. Psalm 46
